“I didn’t know who he was at that point.
“But Richard went on to compliment me, said I had a fantastic voice and we had a brief chat about the music, before I continued to record the next song.
“To my delight and amazement I was then told he wanted to record the whole album with me. I was gob smacked and must have looked like a Cheshire cat for the rest of the day.’’
Around late November 2004 we started recording and Richard brought his backing band with him. I introduced myself and still couldn’t believe I was working with these guys but most of all on my songs.
“We had a great laugh too and for me it was fantastic to be surrounded by like minded people, I was in the musical equivalent to mecca. Richard and the guys commented on how much they enjoyed my music and also working with me.
“Richard wanted to make sure we were doing everything as I wanted. My answer was they were doing everything right for me. I didn’t see the need to comment if I had no reason to. Richard and the guys really appreciated this and you could see the respect we had for one another further develop.
“Overall it was a great experience and I would love to work with Richard and the guys in the future. The most memorable moments for me though were out of the studio, when Richard took me to the pub and introduced me to everyone, we then went onto his house and listen to his private collection of records until 4am, on his little Danset record player. He then went ont o let me listen to a CD he was working on and asked for my opinion. It later went onto be the Mercury award winning Coles Corner. Richard also gave me a lot of advice . When he heard the completed record, he phoned me up and told me he thought I’d done a great job and he was proud to be associated with the record. I am so humbled that Richard wanted to work with me and my music, but I also like to think most of all I gained a friend.
